Student Choice (Song Analysis)

Many artists tend to cross the line in their music. Sometimes it intentional and sometimes it’s on purpose, but nonetheless it has the same effect on the public. One artist that has boggled the minds of millions of people all over the world is, Lady GaGA. In the song “Alejandro”, Lady GaGA uses storytelling and repetition to convey the message of unrequited love.
In “Alejandro” there are numerous accounts of repetition in song. “Don’t bother me” is repeated numerous times to show how the man is still in love with this woman, but she wants nothing to do with him. Storytelling is a major part of this song, “She’s got both hands in her pocket/ and she won’t look at you”, shows how this girl is just not caring about this man because she had her heart broken by him. “Don’t wanna kiss” is said a lot throughout the song showing how this girl really doesn’t want to be romantically involved with this man anymore. “Don’t call my name”, is a phrase Lady GaGa uses to address multiple male callers in this song with shows the heartbreak that every person involved will feel. Through the uses of repetition and storytelling Lady GaGa successfully convey the message of an unusual song about heartbreak.

Alejandro Lyrics

Alejandro Lyrics

I know that we are young.
And I know you may love me.
But I just can't be with you like this anymore.
Alejandro.

She's got both hands
in her pocket.
And she won't look at you,
Won't look at you

She hides true love
En su bolsillo.
She's got a halo 'around her finger.
Around you.

You know that I love you boy.
Hot like Mexico, rejoice.
At this point I gotta choose,
nothing to loose.

Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Alejandro.
I'm not your babe.
I'm not your babe, Fernando.

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just smoke my cigarrette and hush.
Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Roberto.

Alejandro.
Alejandro.
Ale-ale-jandro.
Ale-ale-jandro. [2x]

(Just stop. Please. Just let me go. Alejandro. Just let me go.)

She's not broken,
She's just a baby.
But her boyfriend's like a dad, just like a dad.
and all those flames that burned before him.
Now he's gonna fight your fight, gonna cool the bad.

You know that I love you boy.
Hot like Mexico, rejoice.
At this point I gotta choose,
nothing to loose

Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Alejandro.
I'm not your babe.
I'm not your babe, Fernando.

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just smoke my cigarette and hush.
Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Roberto.

Album Review

Justin Bieber is only a 17-year-old teenage boy, and everyone knows his name. The catchy beats and lyrics to his songs grasp people’s attention. In his second album My World 2.0 Justin displays heartbreak and struggles in relationships in numerous songs. The faithful fans of this teen-heartthrob love everything about him and his music, but some people don’t take him as seriously. Justin Bieber is probably the most famous name in Pop culture and My World 2.0 didn’t disappoint.
This album is beautifully written and expresses heartbreak in many different ways. The diversity of rhythm and pace, some songs are slow and sweet and others have a hip-hop edge. The song “Stuck in the Moment” tells the story of a young couple who can’t be together. Bieber shows this through allusions and powerful motifs. Another song called “That Should Be Me” shows the pain of a boy who had his heart broken recently and now sees his ex move on to someone else. Overall, My World 2.0 exemplifies struggle in young love through powerful and emotional songs.
